Frequently asked questions

Where did the name SparkFish come from?

Christian schools ministry in Reigate and Redhill began in 1997 and took on the name Encounters. When internet searching became common, a name change was thought desireable because of the sort of agencies using the title Encounters. A unique name was created by a group of young people and their leaders. It blends the spark of new life with the fish, the oldest symbol of the Christian faith.

What sort of organisation is it?

SparkFish is a charitable trust, managed in accordance with its trust deed by a group of trustees acting as a management committee.

Do you have a statement of faith?

We affirm the Basis of Faith of Urban Saints, the organisation with which we were formerly associated:
- God as Creator of all and the Father of all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The Lord Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God, Redeemer of the world, and the One Mediator, through faith in whom alone we obtain forgiveness of sins.
- God the Holy Spirit.
- The fact of sin, and the necessity for the atonement.
- The incarnation, death, resurrection, ascension and coming again of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The whole Bible as the inspired Word of God.

What are your aims?

In brief, we aim to inspire and encourage young people, lovingly demonstrating and intelligently explaining the Christian faith. For a full statement of our aims, methods and values, please go the Resources page where you can read or download our Aims and Values.

Who funds SparkFish?

Funds are provided by local churches and individuals who support the aims of the organisation.

Do you represent particular churches?

We have supportive links with the majority of local churches, of all denominations. Churches may support us through funding and/or publicity in newsletters, church services, websites, etc.

Which schools do you work in?

We focus on schools in Reigate, Redhill, Merstham and the surrounding area. Our objective is that every school and student will benefit from links with local churches, providing helpful support with areas such as collective worship, RE, PSHE, pastoral care, extra-curricular activities and governance.
